UK Record Retailers

Ranger provides products and services to numerous UK record retailers, including more than 500 independent outlets throughout the country. Indeed, Ranger equipment can be found in virtually every major town from Cornwall to the Highlands and Yorkshire to County Down!.

Until recently many independents still used the 'Epson' data capture terminal, first deployed in the 1980's after a series of unsuccessful attempts to automate the record chart process. These terminals suited retailers who do not use Epos and allow product barcodes to be scanned directly.

When Ranger took over the Epson terminals in 1993, only about a third were found to be providing useful data and changes were put in hand immediately. The crucial element in the chart data capture process is barcode scanning and it was found that the scanners originally supplied with Epsons were unusable.

Fortunately Ranger were able to persuade the industry to provide funds for total replacement of this equipment and by 1995 all chart terminals were able to report 100% of sales through modern and reliable scanners.
